Week 2 Quarterback Streamers For Fantasy Football: Matthew Stafford Bounceback Incoming
Jorge Martin identifies three quarterback streamers for Week 2 in fantasy football.
If Week 1 of the NFL season is any indication, points will be aplenty all season. Let’s hope, because fantasy football is more fun that way. Especially if you’re looking to play late-round or streaming quarterbacks this season. Tyler Shough was a hit if you started him in a deep or superflex league. Let’s see if we can get some hits from players outside the top 12 in our fantasy football rankings now that the calendar has turned to Week 2. Make sure to check out our fantasy football projections to get further confirmation why these players are targets.
QB Streamers for Week 1 in Fantasy Football
Matthew Stafford | Rams vs. Giants (MNF)
It’s rare for Matthew Stafford to have two off weeks in a row, and with the extra few days after the return from playing the 49ers in Australia last Thursday, more rust should be shaken off their offense. The connection between Stafford and WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams was far from perfect, as he did not throw a TD in the opener against the 49ers. The reigning MVP threw for at least 1 TD in every game last season.
Stafford was likely chosen as one of two QBs for a platoon situation in many leagues, and this is a week to start him. He’s home, and the team should be more focused on a bounceback after getting rocked by the 49ers. The Giants are coming off an emotional 28-20 victory over the Cowboys, just days after the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy in New York that drew pregame tributes on Sunday night. Some may expect a letdown, though the Giants secondary was starting to get picked apart late in their opener. On the road in LA, in front of a Monday Night Football crowd, it should be a much better game for Stafford and company. The fact that Jaxson Dart could push the Rams D that will not have Myles Garrett only adds to the fact that Stafford could get pushed into a potential shootout.
Geno Smith | Jets vs. Packers
Geno Smith was fine in the opener at Tennessee, completing 19 of 24 passes for 215 yards and no scores. But he didn’t turn the ball over, which is usually one of the primary concerns with Geno. He did complete 9 of 10 targets to primary targets Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell for 139 yards.
Geno will be pushed in this home matchup with the Packers, who just saw Jordan Love pass for 387 yards and 2 scores against the Vikings. With an over/under of 44.5 points and the Packers road favorites at -3.5, the Jets passer will have to throw more than he did last week. We love the stats no matter if they come in garbage time.
Carson Wentz | Vikings at Bears
This is a potential move, likely for a QB2 in superflex leagues, if Kyler Murray has to sit an extra game after leaving Week 1 with a concussion. That’s a situation to monitor as the week progresses.
This is also a move to target a defense that we should be doing on a near-weekly basis: Da Bears. After giving up 361 yards and 3 TDs to Bryce Young in Week 1, the defense got saved by Caleb Williams and company in a 59-37 Chicago massacre. The Bears will keep scoring and giving up points, so take advantage whenever you have players going against them. Carson Wentz is rostered in 0% of leagues, and that could rise once waiver wires close because of this matchup.
