9 Overreactions to Week 1 Fantasy Football (+Week 2 Waiver Targets)

Published Updated

It's Monday after Week 1 of fantasy football. Somebody in your league is about to drop a player they drafted in the fourth round. Don't be that person.

Kendall Valenzuela and Peter Overzet are kicking off "Overreaction Monday" on everything Week 1 threw at us! We're sorting the results that actually mean something from the ones that are going to look silly in three weeks.

They start with the takes that feel true right now and probably aren't: the Bears as the highest-scoring offense of all time, the Bills looking like a Super Bowl lock after what they did to Houston, and the Chargers costing you more than just your survivor pool. Then the backfield questions — whether Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery can both finish as RB1s, whether Jonathon Brooks getting out-rushed by A.J. Dillon is a real problem, and what a Travis Etienne rotation means once Alvin Kamara is back.

Then the part that hurts: Ja'Marr Chase, Drake London and DeVonta Smith all laid an egg, and the target and target-share numbers tell three completely different stories about why. Bench, cut, or fire into the sun? Plus the tight end debate Kendall has apparently been waiting all offseason to win.

The back half is entirely actionable. Every waiver target worth a claim this week, position by position — Jalen Coker as the headline add, quarterback help in Tyler Shough and Carson Wentz, Kaelon Black at running back, a deep receiver group in Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, Demarcus Robinson and DeVaughn Vele, and Michael Mayer at tight end.

And then they write letters. It's Not Me, It's You — Pete to Zay Flowers and Ja'Kobi Lane, Kendall to Carson Wentz.
